What you need to know about the Anti-Ballistic Coalition?

On 13 July in France, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy, together with the leaders of partner nations, launched the Integrated Anti-Ballistic Coalition.

  1. Who has joined the Coalition?

The Coalition currently brings together 10 countries: Ukraine, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden, and the United Kingdom.

The Coalition remains open to other countries that share its principles and are ready to contribute to this effort.

  1. Why is it needed?

russia is increasingly using ballistic missiles to attack Ukrainian cities and civilian infrastructure. At the same time, cooperation between russia, Iran, and North Korea in the development of missile technologies continues to deepen.

This poses a growing threat not only to Ukraine but to Europe as a whole. That is why Europe must develop its own modern anti-ballistic defense system.

  1. How will the Coalition operate?

Cooperation will take place on three levels: political, governmental, and industrial.

Participating countries will jointly define the requirements for the future system, conduct research, develop and manufacture new capabilities, test them, and bring them into operational use.

  1. Who is participating in the project?

Leading European defense companies have already joined the initiative, including Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace, Thales, Safran, MBDA, Eurosam, Saab, Diehl Defence, Weibel Scientific, Fire Point, HENSOLDT, Sener, Leonardo

Importantly, companies that until recently were competitors are now combining their technologies and expertise to achieve a common goal: building a reliable shield for Europe's skies.

  1. What is Ukraine's contribution?

Ukraine is prepared to provide one of the key elements of the future system — an anti-ballistic interceptor missile.

Our partners, in turn, possess advanced radars, sensors, and other critical components. Combining these capabilities will make it possible to deliver the joint FREYJA project.

  1. What makes the project unique?

FREYJA is not intended to replace existing air and missile defense systems. Instead, it will complement them by creating a unified European anti-ballistic shield.

This approach will enable Ukraine and Europe to strengthen their security more quickly, more effectively, and more cost-efficiently.
