Address by the Secretary of the NSDC of Ukraine on Holocaust Remembrance Day
On January 27, the world commemorates the victims of the Holocaust.
This is a tragic chapter in human history. The Nazi regime destroyed millions of people through hatred, dehumanization, and the silent consent of the world.
On this day, 81 years ago, the prisoners of one of the most horrific Nazi concentration camps—Auschwitz—were liberated. Only decisive, joint action by the entire world was able to stop Nazism.
Unfortunately, today the Ukrainian people are suffering from a horrific and bloody war unleashed by the russian federation. This proves that totalitarian regimes kill only when they feel impunity.
Remembrance of the Holocaust is not only about the past. It is about the resolute readiness to act preemptively and the inevitability of punishment for war criminals.
We bow our heads in memory of the millions murdered simply for the right to be themselves. We call on the world to learn the lessons of the past and prevent the repetition of such tragedies.
Just as the world once united to stop the Nazis, today russian aggression must be stopped—by the force of law, the force of unity, and the force of decisive action.
