Review of events in the field of artificial intelligence for August 2025

6.jpegThe August issue of «AI Frontiers: Innovations, Breakthroughs, Challenges,» prepared by the National Cybersecurity Coordination Center at the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine in conjunction with the National Institute for Strategic Studies and the Center for Analysis and Development of Effective Policies, key events of the month that shape the global agenda in the field of cybersecurity and artificial intelligence are summarized.

The technological race between leading countries continues unabated: China has demonstrated success in integrating AI into space programs by testing the Wukong system aboard its national orbital station. This technology is capable of analyzing telemetry in real time, assisting in flight control and diagnosing malfunctions, thereby increasing the autonomy of space missions. At the same time, Japan is developing AI systems for inspecting nuclear facilities, and international experts are proposing principles for the safe and responsible implementation of intelligent systems, emphasizing transparency, the integration of cyber security from the development stage, and compliance with regulatory requirements.

The debate on AI ethics and user protection is intensifying. In the US, a lawsuit is being considered against OpenAI, in which parents accuse ChatGPT of influencing the psychological state of a teenager, which could set a legal precedent and define future standards of developer responsibility. In response to public outcry, Meta changed its chatbot policy, prohibiting them from discussing dangerous topics with minors.

The social component remains no less important—new research indicates that automation and the use of AI in business are reducing the number of entry-level jobs for college graduates, intensifying competition in the labor market. This creates an additional challenge for education systems and retraining programs.
