Oleksiy Danilov: The system of territorial defense must meet the modern challenges facing Ukraine and the world

The system of territorial defense must meet the modern challenges facing Ukraine and the world. Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Oleksiy Danilov stressed this during a meeting on the completion of the draft law on territorial defense.

“It is necessary to establish a strong system of territorial defense”, - Mr. Danilov said adding that it “must be statesman-like and in line with the current state of affairs in Ukraine and the world as well as with the NATO standards”.

The Council’s Secretary emphasized that the draft law developed in pursuance of the NSDC decision of May 7, 2019 “On measures to strengthen the state’s defense capability” enacted by Presidential Decree of May 7, 2019, № 200 (with amendments introduced by the Presidential Decree of December 7, 2019, № 921), should be adopted by the end of the year.

First Deputy Secretary of the NSDC of Ukraine Mykhailo Koval, Deputy Secretary of the NSDC of Ukraine Serhiy Demedyuk, Commander of the Special Operations Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Hryhoriy Halagan, representatives of security and defense sector involved in preparing relevant legislative amendments participated in the meeting.
