Oleksiy Danilov: Subjects of Ukraine’s security and defense sector should promptly ensure the full implementation of the State Defense Order

Subjects of the security and defense sector of Ukraine should promptly ensure the full implementation of the State Defense Order in the shortest possible time.

Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Oleksiy Danilov stated this during the interagency meeting on the development of the defense-industrial complex and the implementation of the state defense order to meet the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in 2020.

The participants of the meeting discussed, in particular, the state of implementation of the NSDC of 18.02.2020 “On the key indicators of the state defense order for 2020 and 2021, 2022” enacted by the Decree of President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy of February 27, 2020 № 59 with regards to the development of defense industry, problematic issues and proposals to solve them.

Mr. Danilov emphasized the unacceptably low level of implementation by central executive bodies of the decree of Head of State Volodymyr Zelenskyy, which provides for priority measures, in particular, to reform the defense-industrial complex.

The Secretary of the Council drew attention to the unsatisfactory implementation of the SDO for the current year by the Ministry of Economic Development, Trade and Agriculture of Ukraine and the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.

The NSDC Secretary stated the need to take urgent measures to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of the Ministry for Strategic Industries of Ukraine.

“The situation due to the Covid-19 epidemic is extremely tense, but the security and defense sector subjects must fully complete their tasks, - the NSDC Secretary underscored. - The Council’s decision of February 18 this year must be implemented”.

In this context, he called for a statesman-like approach to addressing problematic issues and noticed the need to increase executive discipline.

Based on the results of the meeting, the Ministry of Economy and the Ministry of Defense were instructed to take measures within two weeks to ensure the efficient use of state budget resources in accordance with the adopted decisions.

In accordance with the decisions of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, the Ministry for Strategic Industries was instructed to intensify work on reforming the defense industry, modernization, and reaching the NATO standards.

Minister of Economic Development, Trade and Agriculture of Ukraine Ihor Petrashko, Minister of Defense of Ukraine Andriy Taran, First Deputy Minister for Strategic Industries of Ukraine Valeriy Ivashchenko, First Deputy Minister of Finance of Ukraine Denys Ulyutin, Chairman of the relevant Parliamentary Committee Oleksandr Zavitnevych, First Deputy Secretaries of the NSDC of Ukraine Mykhailo Koval and Ruslan Demchenko, Deputy Secretary of the NSDC of Ukraine Serhiy Demedyuk participated in the meeting.
