Secretary of the NSDC of Ukraine Oleksiy Danilov meets with Ambassador of Japan to Ukraine Takashi Kurai
On June 11, 2020, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Oleksiy Danilov held a meeting with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Ukraine Takashi Kurai.
During the meeting, the interlocutors appreciated the new quality of the partnership between Ukraine and Japan, and also discussed a wide range of issues of Ukrainian-Japanese relations, including joint long-term economic projects and attracting relevant investments for their implementation.
Particular attention was paid to the issue of deepening cybersecurity cooperation between the security agencies of the two countries. “Cybersecurity is an additional area of bilateral cooperation between Ukraine and Japan in which we could succeed”, - the NSDC Secretary pointed out.
Mr. Danilov stressed that the development of partnership relations with Japan is an important element of Ukraine’s foreign policy, which aims to further deepen political dialogue and strengthen trade and economic relations.
The parties also exchanged views on the development of the security situation in the global and regional dimensions, in particular given the worldwide spread of coronavirus and the effectiveness of measures to combat the pandemic. In particular, the Ambassador of Japan acknowledged the success of the Ukrainian authorities in fighting COVID-19.
In this context, Mr. Danilov noted that Ukraine is showing good results in combating the spread of coronavirus. “Timely introduction of restrictive measures by Ukraine has had a positive impact on the dynamics of the incidence of COVID-19 coronavirus infection”, - the NSDC Secretary said.
Ambassador of Japan Takashi Kurai expressed support for the reforms initiated by the team of the President of Ukraine and assured of his country’s interest in the further development of bilateral cooperation.
The NSDC Secretary expressed his gratitude to Japan for its consistent policy of supporting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of our country.
