Oleksiy Danilov: The management of the system of territorial defense of Ukraine should be within the competence of the President of Ukraine - Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine

The management of the system of territorial defense of Ukraine should fall within the competence of the President of Ukraine - Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Oleksiy Danilov stressed this during an interagency meeting on defense of Ukraine held at the Staff of the NSDC of Ukraine.

First Deputy to the Secretary of the NSDC of Ukraine Colonel-General Mykhailo Koval, First Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine Ivan Rusnak, Deputy Commander of the Territorial Defense of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Major-General Anatoliy Brahylevych, heads of relevant departments of the NSDC Staff participated in the meeting.

While discussing the issue of improving the system of territorial defense of Ukraine, the NSDC Secretary emphasized the need to develop common approaches to developing its architecture. He also highlighted the need to accelerate the preparation of the relevant bill, taking into account the features of the administrative-territorial reform, which is planned to be implemented in Ukraine.

"We need to involve all actors of the security and defense sector in the system of territorial defense as well as to engage the public sector, - Mr. Danilov said. - We need to understand how we engage veterans who have returned from the front to the territorial defense system. Moreover, we need to keep in mind over seven thousand economic entities that have been licensed to carry out security activities that may also be beneficial to the state".

Following the meeting, the NSDC Secretary instructed First Deputy to the Secretary of the NSDC of Ukraine Colonel-General Mykhailo Koval, who, in accordance with the NSDC decision of December 7, was appointed responsible for improving the system of territorial defense of Ukraine, to intensify work in the aforementioned area and submit relevant proposals till the end of this year.
