Message from the NSDC Office of Ukraine

Due to the increasing number of reports on the likely lifting of sanctions applied to Russian social networks in Ukraine, the Staff of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine considers it necessary to explain the mechanisms for applying, lifting, amending and controlling the enforcement of sanction restrictions.

1. In accordance with the Law of Ukraine "On Sanctions", decisions applying, lifting or amending sanctions shall be adopted by the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine solely on the basis of proposals by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, the President of Ukraine, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, the Security Service of Ukraine and the National Bank Of Ukraine.

2. The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine together with the Security Service of Ukraine and the National Bank of Ukraine shall carry out the implementation and monitoring of the effectiveness of the sanctions imposed by Presidential decrees, in accordance with the decisions of the NSDC of Ukraine.

Responding to the situation in the information space, Secretary of the NSDC of Ukraine Oleksandr Danyliuk, in control of the implementation of the NSDC decisions, drew the attention of the abovementioned state bodies to the need to ensure the consistent observance of sanctions and to monitor their effectiveness until their expiration or cancellation in accordance with the procedure established by law.
