Secretary of the NSDC of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov met with the UK Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Ukraine Judith Gough
Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov held a meeting with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United Kingdom to Ukraine Judith Gough.
During the meeting, Mr. Turchynov informed Ms. Gough of the aggravation of the situation in the East of Ukraine due to constant aggression and intense shelling by the Russian-occupational troops. "At the same time, the Joint Forces are ready to respond adequately to any provocations", - Secretary of the NSDC of Ukraine emphasized.
Moreover, the interlocutors discussed the aggravation of the situation in the Azov Sea due to the expansion of Russia's military presence. "The expansion of the landing capabilities of the Russian Federation in this region indicates the possibility of provocations on their part in the Azov coast", - Secretary of the NSDC of Ukraine said reminding about the Russians' attempts to block ships moving to Ukrainian ports in the Azov Sea.
The parties also considered the possibility of conducting a peacekeeping operation in the East of Ukraine.
Also, the interlocutors paid considerable attention to the adoption of the Law of Ukraine "On National Security". Oleksandr Turchynov expressed his hope that next week "the law, which was worked out together with international experts, will be approved by the parliament as a whole". "It is vital to adopt this law on the eve of the NATO Brussels Summit, as it regulates bringing the entire security and defense sector of Ukraine in line with the Alliance's standards, which is essential for further integration of our country into NATO", - Secretary of the NSDC of Ukraine stressed.
In her turn, the UK Ambassador Judith Gough emphasized that UK supports the independence and territorial integrity of Ukraine, United Kingdom remains a reliable Ukraine's partner and friend.
