At a meeting, the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine considered the issue of ensuring additional financing of the security and defense sector within the current budget year, and the imposition of personal special economic and other restrictive measures (sanctions).

In particular, upon consideration, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine was assigned to amend the Law «On the State Budget of Ukraine for 2016» in order to increase financing of the Ministry of Defence, the Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defence, the National Police, the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine and other power structures.

The respective draft law will be submitted to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine in the nearest time. Also, the issue of the extension of personal special economic and other restrictive measures (sanctions) introduced by the NSDC of Ukraine in September 2015 and the application of additional sanctions against individuals and legal entities involved in the Russian aggression against Ukraine were also considered.

Separately, the NSDC of Ukraine adopted a decision to apply sanctions to persons involved in illegal actions against the citizens of Ukraine. Particularly, this refers to the representatives of the law enforcement and judicial authorities of the Russian Federation responsible for the illegal persecution of citizens of Ukraine Oleg Sentsov, Oleksandr Kolchenko and others who were wrongfully detained, convicted, and are still held illegally in Russia's territory.
