Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov had a meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland Witold Waszczykowski.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the current situation in Ukraine, the security situation in Europe, and the reform of the security and defense sector of our country.
According to Mr. Turchynov, despite the Minsk agreements on the cease-fire, every day Russian-terrorist groupings conduct shellings of our positions using prohibited weapons.
"In fact, Russia is trying to block the Minsk process", - the NSDC Secretary stated, adding that apart from military provocations in the east, strengthening of military bases on the territory of the Russian Federarion near the Ukrainian border is observed; moreover, "the number of military aircraft on the airfields located in the vicinity to Ukraine is increasing".
The parties discussed the issue of involvement of experts from Poland and other NATO countries to facilitate the reform of the security and defense sector of Ukraine.
Oleksandr Turchynov and Witold Waszczykowski underscored that Poland and Ukraine have a common position on the need for continued sanctions against the aggressor state until the complete liberation of all occupied territories.
In his turn, Mr. Waszczykowski told about the challenges the European Union faces because of Brexit and stressed the need to intensify cooperation with Ukraine both within the EU and at the Visegrad countries level, stressing that "Poland has supported and will support Ukraine on its way to Europe".
