Andriy Parubiy held a series of bilateral meetings with senior officials of the EU institutions

On the 20th of May during the working visit to Brussels the Secretary of the National Security and Defence Council of Ukraine Andriy Parubiy held a series of bilateral meetings with the Deputies Secretary General of the European External Action Service (EEAS) Helga Schmid and Maciej Popowski, and with the President of the European People's Party Joseph Daul.

The sides exchanged views on ways of further settling the situation in Ukraine, including involving of the potential of the EU and other international partners. In this context, particular attention was paid to the use of instruments of the Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP), including the possibility of sending the EU CSDP mission to Ukraine.

Andriy Parubiy informed the details of the internal situation in Ukraine emphasizing the events in the eastern regions. He also told about the steps of the state leadership to de-escalate the tension in society and stabilize the security situation. It was particularly stressed on firmness of the Ukrainian authorities to ensure fair and transparent presidential elections.

The Secretary of the National Security and Defence Council of Ukraine noted the need to consolidate the further position of the EU and to take more decisive steps in supporting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine.

On the 19th of May the delegation of Ukraine headed by the Secretary of the National Security and Defence Council of Ukraine Andriy Parubiy took part in the meeting of the High Level Joint Working Group Ukraine - NATO on military reform issues in NATO Headquarters, Brussels.

The event was chaired by the Deputy Secretary General of NATO Alexander Vershbow.

During the meeting, the head of the Ukrainian delegation Andriy Parubiy reported on internal and external security situation in Ukraine, outlined the problematic issues and tasks in the area of national security and defence. He also outlined the directions of intensifying of NATO - Ukraine cooperation in resolving of the crisis situation for today and its further perspective.

He confirmed the willingness of the new government of Ukraine to provide the democratic development of the country and said that one of the key challenges today is to conduct the presidential elections on the 25th of May in Ukraine.

Representatives of member states of NATO said about willingness to send advisors in jointly identified areas to provide advisory support to the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine and to the other constituents of security and defense sector during their reform in accordance with modern standards.

Also during the visit to NATO Headquarters Andriy Parubiy held a meeting with the Deputy Secretary General of NATO Alexander Vershbow. The sides discussed the situation in our country, its influence on the European and regional security, and exchanged the views on further cooperation in the areas of security and defence.

Following the visit Andriy Parubiy said that non-lethal military-technical assistance of the NATO member states are located now on the border of Ukraine and shall be delivered in the coming days.

In addition, he said that the best NATO experts are ready to provide advisory support to Ukraine on reforming the security and defence sector of Ukraine.

Also the Secretary of the NSDC thanked the NATO representatives in strong support by the Allies member states in the questions of the territorial integrity of Ukraine and the recognizing of necessity in increasing of the pressure on Russia.
