The power of Ukrainians is in their unity: Oleksii Danilov met with volunteers of the NGO “We are different – Ukraine is united”
There is always a queue for camouflage nets woven by the volunteers of the NGO “We Are Different - Ukraine is United”. And that is because they are made of high-quality and durable materials that are not flammable, waterproof, sunburn resistant, ultra-light and quiet in windy conditions. In addition, such nets remain out of sight of thermal imagers, do not glare, and are almost impossible to see on night vision devices and even from a height.
Maina Martyniuk, Deputy Chairman of the Board of the NGO, told Oleksii Danilov, Secretary of the National Security and Defence Council of Ukraine, about these details.
“Weaving camouflage nets is quite a painstaking job, but no one complains. On the contrary, our volunteers are happy to be able to help the defenders”, – says Maina, adding that the oldest volunteer is already 80 years old.
The innovative textile material used in the work is spunbond, which is made from the finest polymer fibres. Thanks to this, there are only positive feedbacks from the military.
For his part, the head of the NGO, Oleksandr Tymchenko, stressed that the volunteers are constantly improving the process of making the nets: they follow a special MultiCam pattern to blur the contours of the objects being covered.
“There are a lot of russian drones on the frontline, so our task is to make the soldiers invisible with the help of camouflage nets. And we are very happy when we succeed. For example, the military took aerial footage of their positions from a height of 100 m, and when analysing the video and photo materials, no one except representatives of the Special Forces unit found the objects covered by our nets”, – he said.
Oleksandr Tymchenko also added that the maximum size of the net woven by the organisation’s volunteers is 900m², and it is used to camouflage a military aircraft. At the same time, the net is quite portable.
While talking to the volunteers, Oleksii Danilov recalled the first weeks after the full-scale invasion of Ukraine by the russia: “Few people believed in the strength and unity of Ukrainians at the beginning of the invasion. They said we were not capable of repelling the enemy. But justice is on our side. And we will definitely win”, – said the Secretary of the National Security and Defence Council of Ukraine, and thanked everyone for their kind hearts, tireless work and assistance to the military.
