Oleksiy Danilov held a meeting of the working group on water security of the state and providing the population with quality drinking water

A regular meeting of the working group on water security of the state and providing the population with quality drinking water in the settlements of Ukraine was held under the chairmanship of the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Oleksiy Danilov.

During the meeting, the state of implementation of the NSDC decision of July 30, 2021 “On the state of water resources of Ukraine”, enacted by the Decree of the President of Ukraine of August 13, 2021, № 357, was considered.

Opening the meeting, Mr. Danilov emphasized that it’s unacceptable to reduce the level of executive discipline during the implementation of the NSDC decisions enacted by decrees of President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

In particular, it was stressed that the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine should complete a number of tasks in the field of water security in due time such as: to develop and submit to the Verkhovna Rada draft laws amending the Tax Code of Ukraine on rent for special use of seawater, to prolong the National Target Program for the Development of the Water Management and Environmental Recovery of the Dnieper River Basin until 2021, to strengthen the responsibility of economic entities for drilling and using wells for groundwater production without proper permits, to expand sources for state fund of water development, etc.

The Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine was instructed to ensure that the inventory of water management infrastructure of Ukraine is carried out within a specified period, create an electronic map of water resources of Ukraine and implement a process of their monitoring on a regular basis.

The participants of the meeting paid special attention to the issue of improving the legal acts on ensuring the safety and quality of drinking water intended for human consumption.

The NSDC Secretary also stressed the need to intensify the efforts of local authorities in approving regional and local programs for the development of water management and programs in the field of drinking water, drinking water supply, and sewerage.

Representatives of central executive bodies, research institutions, experts of the NSDC Staff also participated in the meeting.
