On September 28, 2021, Deputy Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Oleksiy Solovyov took part in a joint meeting of the Board of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine and the Council of Rectors of Higher and Postgraduate Education Institutions as part of a working trip to the Ternopil region.

During the meeting of the Board, Oleksiy Solovyov emphasized the attention of those present that discussing issues of staffing of the medical sector, provided for in the agenda of the meeting, is extremely important. The UN High-level Commission on Health Employment and Economic Growth has estimated that the projected global shortage of health workers will reach 18 million by 2030.

“Given the current situation in Ukraine, the problem of providing the health care system with doctors and nurses is a matter of national security. In some areas – pediatrics, virology, epidemiology, infectious diseases, etc. – the level of the existing shortage of specialists in Ukraine is becoming threatening. That is why the issues of ensuring the training of medical workers, determining the mechanisms of their further employment in accordance with the needs of medical institutions are vital today”, - the Deputy NSDC Secretary emphasized.
