Oleksiy Danilov: We should engage every territorial community to participate in the implementation of the environmental initiative “Large-scale afforestation of Ukraine”
On Thursday, the interagency working group on forest conservation and reproduction chaired by Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Oleksiy Danilov considered the state of forestry reform and the implementation of the environmental initiative “Large-scale afforestation of Ukraine”.
According to Mr. Danilov, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy instructed to prepare the NSDC meeting on this topical issue.
The participants of the meeting discussed the state of implementation of the tasks set by the Decree of the President of Ukraine of March 23, 2021, № 111, which put into effect the decision of the NSDC of Ukraine of March 23, 2021 “On challenges and threats to the national security of Ukraine in the environmental sphere and priority measures to neutralize them”, and the Decree of the President of Ukraine of June 7, 2021, № 228 “On some measures for the preservation and reproduction of forests”.
Among other things, the meeting covered the ways to solve the problems of forest management, primarily in terms of accounting, protection, use, and restoration of forests, as well as the reorganization of forest enterprises and improving the financial system of forestry.
In this context, Mr. Danilov stressed the importance of accelerating the national forest inventory. “We have over 10 million hectares of forest area, and this asset should bring economic, environmental, and aesthetic benefits”, - he said.
The NSDC Secretary stressed the importance of taking measures to ensure that each amalgamated territorial community is engaged in the implementation of the environmental initiative “Large-scale afforestation of Ukraine”
Deputy Secretary of the NSDC of Ukraine Oleksiy Solovyov, Head of the State Agency of Forest Resources of Ukraine, representatives of other relevant ministries and agencies, NGOs, scientists, specialists of the NSDC Staff participated in the meeting.
