A meeting on the implementation of Presidential Decrees № 111 and № 228 - on challenges and threats to the national security of Ukraine in the environmental sphere and the preservation and reproduction of forests was held at the NSDC Staff
Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Oleksiy Danilov held a meeting on the implementation of the decision of the NSDC of Ukraine of March 23, 2021 “On challenges and threats to the national security of Ukraine in the environmental sphere and priority measures to neutralize them” enacted by the Decree of the President of Ukraine of March 23, 2021, № 111, as well as the tasks set by the Decree of the President of Ukraine of June 7, 2021, № 228 “On some measures for the preservation and reproduction of forests”.
At the beginning of the meeting, Mr. Danilov noted that given climate change, the problem of deforestation in Ukraine is becoming a to the national security of the country. The tasks set by the President of Ukraine and the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine are aimed at reproducing and preserving forest plantations, increasing the area of protected forests.
The participants of the meeting discussed measures aimed at expanding forest areas, including the introduction of mechanisms to stimulate the involvement of local communities in this process, conducting a national forest inventory, digitalization of forestry processes, forestry management reform.
According to the participants of the meeting, it is necessary to accelerate the implementation of the tasks set, more actively involve scientists and members of the public to fulfill them successfully.
Representatives of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine, the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine, the Ministry of Communities and Territories Development of Ukraine, the State Forest Resources Agency of Ukraine, the State Service of Ukraine for Geodesy, Cartography and Cadastre, specialists of the NSDC Staff, etc. participated in the meeting.
