The NSDC of Ukraine has considered urgent measures to combat threats to national security in the field of citizenship
At its meeting on Friday, February 26, this year, the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine has adopted the important decision on state security.
Secretary of the NSDC of Ukraine Oleksiy Danilov said at the end of the meeting that the members of the Council discussed “an extremely important issue” regarding urgent measures to combat threats to national security in the field of citizenship.
He reminded that once Russia had infiltrated Russian citizens into state bodies and law enforcement agencies, in particular, to the positions of heads of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Security Service of Ukraine.
According to the NSDC Secretary, a decision has been adopted today that within a two month the government should propose a bill that will allow to “clearly understand who has dual citizenship”.
It is envisaged, among other things, to introduce an organizational and legal mechanism for detecting the citizenship of foreign states, primarily among persons authorized to perform the functions of state and local self-government, or among persons applying for such positions.
At the same time, he expressed the opinion that people who are today forcibly obtaining Russian citizenship in the temporarily occupied territories of Crimea and Donetsk and Luhansk regions will renounce it after deoccupation.
