Oleksiy Davilov: Increasing expenditures on financing the security and defense sector is a principled stance of the President of Ukraine
On December 15, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted the Law of Ukraine "On the State Budget for 2021" as a whole. Security and defense expenditures next year are projected at the amount of at least 267,287.9 million hryvnias, or at least 5,93% of GDP.
The corresponding target for 2020 was 5,45% of GDP.
Commenting on the approved budget in terms of financing the security and defense sector, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Oleksiy Danilov noticed that its revision took into account the NSDC decision of November 5, 2020 "On proposals to the draft Law of Ukraine "On the State Budget for 2021" on articles related to national security and defense of Ukraine", enacted by the Presidential Decree of November 5, this year №486.
This decision instructs the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine in 2021 to take measures to ensure the priority financing of the security and defense sector of Ukraine in primary areas.
Mr. Danilov stressed that the increase in expenditures on financing the security and defense sector is a principled stance of President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy on national security issues.
"Rearmament of the army, strengthening intelligence capabilities, cybersecurity, support for the domestic defense-industrial complex, social protection of servicemen are among our top priorities", - he said.
After the adoption of the Law of Ukraine "On the State Budget for 2021", the Ministry of Finance must ensure timely and full financing of State budget expenditures provided for the security and defense sector.
