Open letter of Secretary of the NSDC of Ukraine Oleksiy Danilov to the chairmen and deputies of the newly elected local councils
Dear newly elected chairmen and deputies of local councils!
The elections of October 25, 2020, were one of the most important steps on Ukraine’s path to building local self-government that will meet the best European standards.
43 122 deputies of various levels represent the interests of local communities throughout our country.
Thanks to the decentralization reform, the regions have been given broad powers and opportunities to implement economic, social and security programs that will improve the lives of community residents.
At the same time, I would like to draw your attention to the responsibility you have received together with your powers. One of the most important is the duty to take care of the life and well-being of citizens who live in the same city, town, village with you. To take all necessary measures to create the territory of security and stability, an integral part of which is health.
One of the key issues of national security is human health. Today, the spread of COVID-19, which has already claimed the lives of 12 717 Ukrainians and another 758 264 people since the beginning of the year got ill, is an extremely high-level threat.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and the Government of Ukraine have been giving priority to this issue since the outbreak of the epidemic threat.
In order to unite and consolidate efforts to combat the pandemic, it is extremely important to hold immediate sessions of local councils, which should address the issue of overcoming the negative consequences of the spread of COVID-19 in each region, district, city, town, village.
I am convinced that you will receive the full support of your actions from the people of your communities, and the threats will be overcome together, both existing and potential.
Secretary of the NSDC of Ukraine Oleksiy DANILOV
