Secretary of the NSDC of Ukraine Oleksiy Danilov met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the UK to Ukraine Melinda Simmons

Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Oleksiy Danilov held a meeting with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United Kingdom to Ukraine Melinda Simmons.

During the meeting, the parties considered the current security situation in Ukraine and the world, in particular, in the context of Russia’s aggression in the East of Ukraine, and discussed a wide range of issues of bilateral cooperation, focusing on expanding cooperation in cybersecurity.

Mr. Danilov expressed his gratitude to the British side for the assistance provided to our country in the hard times of countering external aggression and pandemics.

Covering the issue of cybersecurity, Mr. Danilov noticed that “the availability of nuclear weapons today is not a guarantee of states’ security, the struggle is being shifted to cyberspace, and we must be ready for these challenges”.

“Ukraine repels cyberattacks from a neighboring country every day, and we understand that this cyber offensive will be directed not only at Ukraine but also at other countries”, - the NSDC Secretary said adding that “we are ready to share this experience with our strategic partners”.

In her turn, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United Kingdom to Ukraine assured of the unwavering support of Ukraine in its struggle for the restoration of sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Ms. Simmons expressed the UK’s readiness to support Ukraine, in particular, in developing a national cybersecurity strategy, as well as to deepen cooperation in building cybersecurity capacities.

The parties agreed to further intensify cooperation between our states.
