Address of Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Oleksiy Danilov on the occasion of the Day of Holodomors Victims

The artificial famine in Ukraine, organized and planned by the Soviet authorities in 1921-1923, 1932-1933 and 1946-1947, is one of the most horrific crimes in human history that has no time limitations.

The Holodomor of 1932-1933, recognized as the genocide of the Ukrainian people, became a deliberate act of mass destruction of Ukrainians as a nation and the Ukrainian peasantry as a class. The evil deeds of the Soviet totalitarian regime stroke an irreparable blow to the very roots of the Ukrainian people, its centuries-old traditions, spiritual culture and ethnic identity, which we are experiencing even today.

The Holodomor...We remember in the name of the future and are aware of our responsibility for today. For this to never happen again, we must preserve our unity, freedom, and dignity. Then no enemy can conquer us or destroy state sovereignty.

Today in the homes of Ukrainians, candles are lit as a symbol of the soul, as a symbol of the memory of those Ukrainians who died during the Holodomor.

Eternal memory.
