On Friday, under the chairmanship of the President of Ukraine, members of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine will meet to discuss issues in the energy sector, in particular, the coal industry, nuclear and gas energy.
This was reported by Secretary of the NSDC of Ukraine Oleksandr Danyliuk on air of the program "Pravo na Vladu" ("Right to Power", 1+1 TV channel) on Thursday.
We strive for a more open dialogue with the government he said adding that such format of the meeting is stipulated by law. "The NSDC should focus on decisions that provide systemic solutions to the problems that have accumulated in the state. We need to discuss everything without politics, understand the existing problems and seek answers together", - Mr. Danyliuk said adding that the results of the meeting will be communicated during the briefing.
According to the NSDC Secretary, the meeting will cover, in particular, Ukraine's readiness to introduce a new model of the electricity market from July 1. "This can really affect tariff increases and cause instability. The decision on the introduction of the electricity market has already been approved by the Cabinet of Ministers. The government is currently not taking any steps to analyze the situation and develop a stance on whether it is necessary to delay its implementation, or not", - Mr. Danyliuk pointed out. "Therefore, we want to hear and understand all the benefits and implications. Tomorrow we will hold a professional discussion on this subject. No politics, just analysis, and responsible decisions", - the NSDC Secretary noticed.
Speaking about the issue of transit of Russian gas through the territory of Ukraine, the NSDC Secretary stated that "it is a challenge both from an economic and a geopolitical point of view". "There is an issue of whether Ukraine will be a transit state in 2020. This issue is both economical, because if this does not happen, we will lose about 3 billion dollars, and geopolitical because if Ukraine is not a transit state, we will become an object, not an actor", - he said.
