Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Ukraine Takashi Kurai

Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Ukraine Takashi Kurai.

During the meeting, the interlocutors discussed the situation in the East of Ukraine in the context of Russia's hybrid aggression. Mr. Turchynov emphasized the importance of preserving the sanctions pressure on the Russian Federation and coordinating the counteraction to Russian aggression at the international level.

Moreover, the interlocutors considered the deepening of cooperation between Ukraine and Japan in the security sector. The parties focused on the issue of reforming the domestic defense-industrial complex and the possibilities for deepening and intensification of bilateral cooperation in this sphere. Mr. Turchynov noticed that our country highly appreciates the assistance provided by Japan in reforming Ukraine's security and defense system.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Ukraine Takashi Kurai, in his turn, reaffirmed Japan's consistent position that "his country does not recognize the illegal annexation of Crimea and supports the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine". Mr. Kurai also stressed that Japan is interested in deepening the bilateral partnership and assured his country's readiness to further fully support Ukraine and develop bilateral cooperation at all levels.
