Secretary of the NSDC of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov named the key threats to Ukraine from the Russian Federation

Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov in an interview with LIGA.net named the six key threats to Ukraine from the Russian Federation.

According to Mr. Turchynov, by the degree of threat, military aggression is in the first place. "This is not only exhaustion of our country as a result of constant military provocations in the east, the ongoing military occupation of part of Donbas and the Crimea. This is the large-scale deployment of military infrastructure along our border with Russia, fixation on fighting in the strategic Ukrainian direction for several Russian armies in the southern and western military districts", - he said. "This testifies to the fact that in case Russia's attempts to restore control over Ukraine politically suffer defeat, it can move to massive military aggression".

The second threat, according to the NSDC Secretary, is information aggression and an attempt to influence political architecture, the results of the political choice of Ukrainians through information tools (mass media, social networks, etc.), and by supporting the direct and hidden stooges of the Russian Federation in Ukrainian politics.

The third place, Mr. Turchynov said, is for cybernetic aggression, "which, in consequence of losses, is comparable to that of the military". "There is a serious confrontation on the cybernetic front, but we have done a lot to significantly strengthen the cyberdefense of our country", - he pointed out.

The fourth threat, the NSDC Secretary posits, is an economic war. "The main problem here is the continued blockade of transit of Ukrainian goods to Asian countries through the Russian Federation, the blockade of the normal functioning of ports in the Sea of Azov, the loss of significant markets for Ukrainian goods, the use of a wide arsenal of provocations on foreign markets for military purposes, etc.", - Mr. Turchynov said.

"The fifth threat is energy. An attempt to block the operation of the Ukrainian gas transportation system through the construction of bypassing gas pipelines, in particular, on the territory of our strategic partners", - he stressed.

"The sixth is the terrorist threat - the active use of sabotage-reconnaissance groups, Russian agents and mercenaries for terrorist acts, attempts to sow disillusion, fear, destabilize the situation inside Ukraine, which is actively countered by our special services", - the NSDC Secretary said noticing that this is hardly a complete list of threats implemented by Russia in the framework of hybrid war against our state.

Answering the questions, Oleksandr Turchynov expressed the conviction that Ukraine has a powerful potential to become a regional leader in Eastern Europe. "But to this end, we must first change the economic situation in the state. The current GDP growth rates are not only sufficient for regional leadership but also to provide priority security programs that are necessary for the reliable state defense", - he said.
