Information of the Press service of the NSDC of Ukraine on the time, duration and borders of the territories where martial law is imposed
According to the proposals of the Military Cabinet, a meeting of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine took place at 00:00 on November 26; the decision "Regarding extraordinary measures on ensuring the state sovereignty and independence of Ukraine and the imposition of martial law in Ukraine" was approved at the meeting. The NSDC of Ukraine submitted the proposal to the President of Ukraine to invoke martial law for two months starting from 14:00 on November 26, 2018 (until 14:00 on January 26, 2019). The corresponding Decree of the President of Ukraine was introduced to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on November 26.
After discussions and consultations in the Parliament, the President of Ukraine made a decision to reduce the duration of martial law to 30 days and publicly informed citizens of Ukraine about this.
The NSDC decision of November 26, 2018, supported the initiative of the President of Ukraine and amended the previous decision. In this regard, a new Presidential Decree № 392/2018 on the imposition of martial law for 30 days was prepared (from 14:00 on November 26 till 14:00 on December 26, 2018).
While discussing the Law of Ukraine "On the Approval of the Decree of the President of Ukraine "On the Imposition of Martial Law in Ukraine" (№9338) Petro Poroshenko agreed to limit the application of the Decree to ten regions, as stated in his speech in the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.
The law initiated by the President of Ukraine, with his proposals taken into account, was supported by 276 people's deputies.
