Address of Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov on the occasion of the Day of Dignity and Freedom

Dear friends!

This day is a day of joy and sorrow. The Revolution of Dignity, which began with the outbreak of youth on Independence Square on November 21, 2013, has forever changed the Ukrainians. Once again we proved our ability to rally around the great purpose of freedom and independence.

The last five years have changed the modern history of not only Ukraine but the entire world. It seems that there have never been so many turning points in such a short period, and our State has become one of the epicenters of change. We united efforts, survived in the fight against the cruel aggressor. The world has solidarized with Ukraine, and this is the defeat of the Kremlin's erratic revanchist plans, the beginning of the fall of the aggressor state!

Freedom is worth fighting for it! And we will always remember the Heroes of the Heavenly Hundred, heroes-volunteers, who went straight to the front line from the Maidan giving their lives for the sake of Ukraine, becoming a role model for future generations!

We, the Ukrainians, always win when we unite and lose when we let strife and internal conflicts to divide us. We sometimes do not even realize what we can do by uniting! The main thing now is to believe in ourselves, in our strengths, and the willingness to go forward by the chosen way of freedom, democracy, the rule of law, economic development and strengthening our country!
