Oleksandr Turchynov: The use of “Cossack” units at FIFA events is unacceptable

The use of "Cossack" paramilitary groups during the World Cup 2018 in Russia is unacceptable. This was stated by Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov in his comment to Reuters.

According to Secretary of the NSDC of Ukraine, the use of "Cossacks" during the World Cup is evidence of the inability of the Russian leadership to ensure law and order by the state authorities, and the use of such units at FIFA events is unacceptable.

Moreover, according to Mr. Turchynov, the inaction of FIFA and the international community in this issue testifies to the virtual support of Russian aggression against Ukraine. "It is unacceptable on the part of the international community to consent to these actions and actually support aggression against Ukraine", - Secretary of the NSDC of Ukraine noticed.

According to Reuters, over 800 members of the six so-called "Cossack" organizations will patrol the streets, fan zones and team bases during the World Cup in the Russian Federation. At least 19 members of these organizations, identified by journalists, participated in the war in the East of Ukraine as part of Russian-terrorist groupings, as well as in the Kremlin-supported private military companies fighting in Syria on the side of pro-Asad troops.
