Address of Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov on the occasion of the Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Political Repressions

Today we honor the memory of over half a million Ukrainians - victims of political repressions of the totalitarian communist grindstone, which needed unceasing bloody sacrifices to continue its existence.

And today the dangerous infection of totalitarianism prompts Russia's Kremlin leaders to imperial revanchism and military aggression. The term "political prisoners" has returned from the communist past - our compatriots, unbreakable and proud patriots of their state, are once again jailed in Russian prisons and camps.

However, all the threats, aggression, provocations and terror that Russia's headmen are trying to unleash against our country are doomed to failure because we are worthy of the memory of those people who gave their lives for the Ukrainian land to be free from dictatorship forever.

On the eve of the presidential and parliamentary elections, some of the Ukrainian political marginals are trying to raise their ratings by playing "strong man", "curtailing democracy" and "iron order" without realizing that millions of executed and tormented Ukrainians became not only a memory for us but also national immunity against the totalitarian regimes of fuhrers and dictators of various breeds.

When praying for the innocent victims, we must prevent the plans of Russia's fifth column to restore the "sovok" and repeat the repressions, and must make every effort to return all political and military prisoners from Russian prisons!
