A meeting of the National Security and Defense of Ukraine was held
On March 1, 2018, a meeting of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine was held, during which the issues of energy security, urgent measures to neutralize threats to national security in the migration policy, and the imposition of personal special economic and other restrictive measures (sanctions) were considered.
According to Chairman of the Board of NJSC Naftogaz-Ukraine Andriy Kobolev, Russia is trying to ignore the Stockholm Arbitration's decision and provokes an energy crisis in Ukraine by reducing the pressure in the transit gas pipeline. In this regard, it was assigned to initiate the seizure of Gazprom's assets in Ukraine and abroad if it fails to comply with the decisions of the Stockholm Arbitration and take other measures to ensure Ukraine's energy security and uninterrupted transit of gas to Europe at low temperatures.
Given the growing threats to the national security of Ukraine associated with external migration in the face of Russian aggression, the NSDC of Ukraine considered proposals, in particular, on improving procedures and strengthening control over the acquisition of citizenship of Ukraine. This refers to restrictions and clearer definitions of grounds for acquiring citizenship of Ukraine, and increasing liability for violations in this sphere. The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine was assigned to submit a bill on introducing a mechanism for preliminary verification of the grounds for entry of citizens of migration risk states, including the Russian Federation, using an electronic notification about their intention to visit Ukraine, to take measures to improve the mechanism of coordinating state policy in the field of integrated border management, control over the stay of foreigners in the territory of Ukraine, and countering illegal migration.
The National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine supported the draft Law of Ukraine "On Amendments to the Law of Ukraine "On Citizenship of Ukraine" and suggested the President of Ukraine submit it for consideration by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.
