Oleksandr Turchynov opened the Cyberthreats Response Center: Today we have made a significant step towards building a national cybersecurity system
The Cyberthreats Response Center established under the State Service of Special Communications and Information Protection of Ukraine is a practical mechanism for early detection of cyberthreats and effective counteraction to cyberattacks. This was stated by Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov at the opening of the Cyberthreats Response Center.
According to him, the Cyberthreats Response Center was created using the world's top cyberdefense technologies. "Today we have made a significant step towards building a national cybersecurity system", - Mr. Turchynov noted adding that period for responding to cyberthreats and notifications about them had already been reduced by ten times.
He reported that the technological capabilities of the Center allow not only to detect cyberattacks, but also to promptly alert to them, analyze vulnerabilities, anomalies, malware, and viruses, and immediately implement countermeasures.
"The cyberdefense tactics is fundamentally changing today. We are transferring from the post-factum response after the large-scale damage to information resources and systems, as it happened during the most recent cyberattacks last year, to early intervention and maximum localization of possible losses", - Oleksandr Turchynov said.
"To build a complete perimeter of cyberdefense, time and resources are needed", - he noted adding that this task cannot be fully realized without a partnership between the state and the private sectors. "This involves entry into the protected circle of critical infrastructure subjects, first of all, energy, financial, transport sectors, etc., and the extension of the cyberdefense system to all regions of Ukraine", - he underscored.
Secretary of the NSDC of Ukraine stressed the Cyberthreats Response Center should become "the core of the national system of cyberdefense of state information resources and critical infrastructure of Ukraine and one of the key components of the operational decision-making by the NSDC National Cybersecurity Coordination Center".
