Secretary of the NSDC of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov met with U.S. Special Representative for Ukraine Negotiations Kurt Volker

Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov held a meeting with the United States Special Representative for Ukraine Negotiations Kurt Volker.

During the meeting, the parties discussed the situation in the East of Ukraine which has developed as a result of Russia's military aggression.

The interlocutors also considered the Law of Ukraine "On Peculiarities of the State Policy on Ensuring the State Sovereignty of Ukraine in the Temporarily Occupied Territories in Donetsk and Luhansk Regions", the issue of prolongation of sanctions against the Russian Federation and the reforming of Ukraine's defense-industrial complex.

While discussing the reform of the domestic defense-industrial complex, the NSDC Secretary stressed that since Putin recognizes only force, "we are strengthening the national Armed Forces, restoring our defense enterprises, developing new weapons and military equipment". Mr. Turchynov also informed that rector of the NTUU "KPI", academician Mykhailo Zgurovsky, was elected as the chairman of the "Ukroboronprom" supervisory board; he is renowned not only in Ukraine but also far beyond its borders. "Replacement of the leadership of the state concern will promote effective reform and introduction of modern scientific developments into production", - Mr. Turchynov emphasized.

In his turn, Mr. Volker stressed that the United States appreciates cooperation with Ukraine. "We appreciate cooperation with you and welcome the processes of reforming Ukraine's security and defense sector", - he noticed.

Moreover, speaking of sanctions against Russia, the U.S. Special Representative for Ukraine Negotiations pointed out that: "The U.S. constantly emphasizes that Russia is responsible for what is happening in Donbas". "We will do everything in our power to help resolve the situation in the East of Ukraine", - he added.
