Secretary of the NSDC of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov held a meeting with the delegation of the Canadian parliament headed by Chairman of the Standing Committee on National Defense Stephen Fuhr
Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov met with the delegation of the Canadian parliament headed by Chairman of the Standing Committee on National Defense Stephen Fuhr.
During the meeting, the interlocutors discussed the situation in the East of Ukraine, the build-up of the military potential of the Russian Federation in the Crimea, its dominance in the Black Sea Basin, and the Russian-Belarusian staff exercise "Zapad-2017".
According to Mr. Turchynov, an increase in the number of weapons and ammunition delivered by Russian troops is observed in Donbas every day.
"We understand why Putin is against the armed UN mission that would control the border with Russia. Because only by blocking the border it is possible to stop the delivery of soldiers, weapons, and ammunition from Russia to the occupied territory", - he said adding that until the border control is established, Russia will continue waging war.
Secretary of the NSDC of Ukraine also stressed that during the Russian-Belarusian exercise "Zapad-2017", Putin demonstrated readiness for an offensive war.
"The last phase of the exercise was devoted to checking the combat readiness of the nuclear triad, and its air, land and marine components were worked out. Thus, Putin demonstrates readiness for a large-scale continental war", - Oleksandr Turchynov noticed.
Moreover, the interlocutors discussed the issues of reforming Ukraine's security and defense sector and cooperation between our countries in the military-technical sphere.
Summarizing the meeting, Mr. Turchynov emphasized that Ukraine considers Canada not only a strategic partner but a friend.
In his turn, Mr. Fuhr stressed that Canada "is always ready to help Ukraine in every possible way".
