Secretary of the NSDC of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov held a meeting with Minister of Defense of the Republic of Estonia Juri Luik

Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov met with Minister of Defense of the Republic of Estonia Juri Luik.

During the meeting, the interlocutors discussed the issues of deepening bilateral cooperation in the military-technical sphere.

Moreover, the parties paid significant attention to the discussion of the strategic command and staff exercise (SCSE) of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation "Zapad-2017".

According to Mr. Turchynov, given the tough economic situation in Russia, "such large-scale exercises cannot be just an ordinary measure of combat training". "It is about demonstrating the determination of the Russian military-political leadership to a hardline response to any attempt of the world community to react forcefully on their next military undertakings", - the NSDC Secretary said adding that he did not exclude new attempts of military intervention of the Russian Federation in the affairs of Ukraine, Belarus, the states of the South Caucasus and Central Asia.

During the talks, the interlocutors also considered the prospects of joint projects in the military-technical sphere, as well as cooperation on cybersecurity issues.

In his turn, Mr. Luik stressed that Estonia "has always supported the territorial integrity of Ukraine and insists on further strengthening of sanctions against the aggressor country".

"The issue of Ukraine's independence is overwhelmingly important to us. This is the issue of Europe's security", - the Minister of Defense of the Republic of Estonia noted concluding that Estonia highly values cooperation with Ukraine. "We hope to further deepen bilateral cooperation and are ready to help your country in every possible way", - he emphasized.
