Oleksandr Lytvynenko: The draft law on national security prepared by the NSDC Staff with NATO’s support should become fundamental for reforming the security and defense sector

Reforming of the security and defense sector has a complex objective: to adapt to the security situation of countering external threats and to refocus this system on the interests of citizens. This was announced by Deputy Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Oleksandr Lytvynenko during the VII International conference "Civilian security sector: reforms' progress and challenges" held in Kyiv today.

In his speech, Mr. Lytvynenko outlined the main achievements in lawmaking in the field of security and defense.

Under the intense cooperation with the EU advisory mission and NATO liaison office a draft law on national security, which should become the foundation for further reforming of the security and defense sector, was prepared. This bill has already been referred to the Presidential Administration for consideration", - Deputy Secretary of the NSDC of Ukraine said.

He also expressed hope that soon the concept of reforming the Security Service of Ukraine will be signed. Moreover, Oleksandr Lytvynenko announced that work has begun on improving legislation on state secrets.
