Oleksandr Turchynov: All the attempts of Russian hybrid troops to break through our defense are doomed
As a result of shellings of the Ukrainian positions by Russian hybrid troops on January 30, 4 soldiers were killed, 12 were injured; on 31 January - 3 were killed and 23 wounded. At the same time, the losses of Russian-terrorist troops far outnumber the losses of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, "which caused a barrage of hysterical statements by the occupational authorities about the contrary". This was stated by Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov.
According to him, the escalation occurred right "after the inspection visit of the OSCE in the east of Ukraine was ended". "After their departure, the intensity of shellings of our positions with weapons prohibited by the Minsk agreements by Russian hybrid forces increased substantially", - Mr. Turchynov said adding that our positions are fired not only with heavy artillery and mortars but with multiple launch rocket systems as well. Over the last day only, around a thousand and a half shells and mines were fired on our positions.
"All the attempts of Russian-terrorist groupings to attack were suppressed by our troops. Moreover, the Ukrainian military servicemen were forced to counterattack to improve their operational positions", - Secretary of the NSDC of Ukraine noticed.
"However, - he reported, - as a result of massive attacks of Avdiivka by the militants, not only infrastructural facilities were damaged but civilian buildings as well; there are injured among the civilian population. All this represents a significant threat to the lives of civilians".
Oleksandr Turchynov added that active shellings of the city outskirts hinder repair operations to restore power supply, damaged during enemy attacks. "The Donetsk military-civil administration and the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in Avdiivka established the Regional coordination headquarters, active remedial measures are carried out", - he said adding that hospitals and the home for elderly people are provided with autonomous power supply means and continue to operate in normal mode.
Also, according to Secretary of the NSDC of Ukraine, in the case of continued shelling of Avdiivka by Russian hybrid troops the SES is ready to evacuate residents to a safe distance - to nearby settlements.
