Oleksandr Turchynov: Despite the severe funding problems, the supplies of missiles for MLRS to the army have been provided already from this year

Ukraine is not just trying to recover the lost missilery technologies but aims to construct the most advanced missile systems. This was stated by Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov in an interview with "LigaBusinessInform" information agency.

According to the NSDC Secretary, Ukraine seeks to create a reliable missile shield. "We are speaking about a wide range of missile systems. These are multiple rocket launcher systems, antitank missile systems, anti-aircraft weapon systems, operational-tactical and many others. But this requires formidable resources - financial, scientific, and productive", - he noted.

Mr. Turchynov underlined that a significant step forward was made in missilery: "We are not just trying to recover the lost technologies but set the task to build new-generation missile systems. For instance, when it comes to multiple rocket launcher systems, those are guided missiles that accurately hit the target, not just cover territories as Russian analogs", - he said adding that the goal is not only to achieve the NATO standards, but first of all, to outperform Russian weapons in quality.

At the same time, Secretary of the NSDC of Ukraine outlined a range of problems arising in the implementation of plans to modernize the defense-industrial complex. "A serious problem is the artificial restriction of military-technical cooperation. Our partners at this point do not want to help us in the issues of equipping our army. We have to do everything ourselves, although the creation of many prototypes of new-generation weapons requires serious international cooperation", - he said.

Secretary of the NSDC of Ukraine emphasized that Ukraine has to create separate areas in the development of the defense-industrial complex from scratch to ensure a complete production cycle.

Oleksandr Turchynov also underlined that one of the problems is the lack of systematic funding of the defense complex. "We created a full cycle of missile production: combat units, missile airframes, fuel. Now we can produce any modifications of missiles for multiple launch rocket systems, antiaircraft warfare, operational-tactical missiles, etc. Not so many countries possess such technology. And now the only limitation for us is low funding. Unfortunately, 2016 was not the most successful year in this regard. We were to receive much of the costs from the special fund, but its filling was blocked by the parliament", - he added.

However, Mr. Turchynov stressed that despite the abovementioned problems, the domestic defense-industrial complex is developing quantitatively and qualitatively. "I want to inform you that despite the severe funding problems, we have been providing the supplies of missiles for MLRS to the army already from this year. I am not entitled to announce quantitative indicators, but we managed to solve this problem rather quickly", - Secretary of the NSDC of Ukraine summarized.
