O. Turchynov on Yanukovich’s inquest: I’m convinced that he should be interrogated as the main accused, not just a witness
Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov believes that former President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych should be questioned as the main accused, not just a witness for the Maidan events.
"Do you know what's the problem of this inquest? The fact that Yanukovych is questioned as a witness, strange as it sounds. This inquest was initiated by advocacy of "Berkut" combatants, accused of shooting the activists of the Maidan. "The Russians, who gave permission for this questioning, just wanted to make a show in which "witness" Yanukovych would protect "Berkut" and blacken the Maidan" - he said in exclusive interview to "Interfax-Ukraine".
Turchynov is convinced that Yanukovych does not admit his guilt. "He'd tell that "Berkut" performed their duty. The Court went forward to the protection of suspects in the killings, and became a tool to implement alien's scenario. I am convinced that Yanukovych should be interrogated as the main accused, not a witness, and there're all grounds for that: starting with the massive corruption and ending by his personal responsibility for the Nebesna Sotnya (Heavenly hundred) shooting"- said the Secretary of NSDC.
According to him, Yanukovych should also be tried for treason. "Remember his address signed for Putin's invasion in Ukraine. It must be answer for this. If we can't provide delivery of Yanukovych to Ukraine it should be applied a correspondence justice. Ukrainian court should serve Ukraine and its laws, not to work extras in the scenario of Russian special services"- said Turchynov.
