Oleksandr Turchynov: Around 800 enterprises will be involved in the production of Ukrainian ammunition

Secretary of the National Security and Defense of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov visited the state joint-stock holding company "Artem", where he held an interagency meeting on the production of ammunition in Ukraine.

First Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine-Minister of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine Stepan Kubiv, the leadership of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the National Guard of Ukraine, the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, government officials and the top-management of the national defense industry also participated in the meeting.

According to Mr. Turchynov, in recent years, including, the two years of waging of the war, "the battle reserves inherited by us from the Soviet Army have been used" to protect our country. "But these reserves are not infinite, a significant part of them was thoughtlessly disposed or sold at the time when no one thought that we would have to fight", - he said.

In NSDC Secretary's opinion, to defend our country, to strengthen its defense capability, there is no alternative other than "to create our own production base of the widest possible range of ammunition - from bullets to large-caliber shells". "Military-technical cooperation with our strategic partners on the issues of obtaining lethal weapons is artificially blocked, and once again we have to rely on our own powers", - he underlined.

Oleksandr Turchynov stressed the need to develop and implement the State program of production of Ukrainian ammunition. "It should be implemented at a very rapid rate, - he said, adding that around 800 Ukrainian enterprises of different profiles can be involved in the process of production of ammunition - "these are chemical manufacturing, and mechanic engineering, and many other related businesses and structures". "Accordingly, new production capacities, new jobs will be restored or created, new technologies will be implemented", - Secretary of the NSDC of Ukraine noted, adding that private business should be also engaged in the implementation of the state programs, "increasing our GDP and strengthening the national economy".

"This is a significant and large-scale problem, and we have no other way except to implement it quickly because the security of our country depends on it", - he concluded.
