NSDC Secretary of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov held a meeting with Director of the State Security Department of the Republic of Lithuania Daryus Yaunishkis

Secretary of the National Security and Defense of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov held a meeting with Director of the State Security Department of the Republic of Lithuania Daryus Yaunishkis.

During the meeting, Mr. Turchynov and Mr. Yaunishkis discussed the issues of security in the region in the light of the aggressive policy of the Kremlin. In this context, the parties emphasized the necessity of deepening Ukrainian-Lithuanian cooperation in the defense and security sector, in particular, between the "intelligence and counterintelligence agencies".

In the course of the negotiations, the parties also analyzed the common threats arising as a result of militaristic aspirations of the Russian Federation and stressed the inadmissibility of lifting of the sanctions against the aggressor state. According to Oleksandr Turchynov, Ukraine has been countering the military aggression of Russia for over two years, "and the issue of military-technical cooperation with our Western partners, particularly, concerning the provision of lethal weapons is still not resolved". "Today all the procurements of lethal weapons are provided by the Ukrainian defense industry, but this is not enough for the effective countering the aggressor", - he stated, adding that the strong Ukrainian army armed with modern weapons is an important factor of peace and security in Europe.

NSDC Secretary thanked Lithuania, which is a reliable friend of Ukraine, for the extensive support of our state. In his turn, Daryus Yaunishkis emphasized the need and promising outlook of bilateral cooperation, "especially in the security and defense sector". "Our countries are moving in the same direction, we are ready to support Ukraine by all means further", - he noted.
