Oleksandr Turchynov: Powerful and professionally trained special operations units are being created in Ukraine

Powerful and professionally trained mobile special operations and rapid response units, able to resist both external and internal enemies, are being created in Ukraine. This was stated by NSDC Secretary Oleksandr Turchynov today after military exercises of one of the National Guard special operations unit on the proving ground in Novy Petrivtsy.

"Russia is carrying out a severe hybrid war against us not only on the battlefield. Not being able to breach our defenses at the front, they throw over to our territory terrorist, sabotage and reconnaissance groups, support and stimulate the bandit and separatist groupings in order to destabilize the situation in the country, create panic and chaos"- NSDC Secretary emphasized.

Oleksandr Turchynov informed that National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine has assigned the task to create and strengthen within the National Guard a numerous special operations units "for quick and adequate response to any internal and external threat". "It is exactly these units will be tasked to neutralize or, if necessary, to destroy terrorist, sabotage and reconnaissance groups or armed gangs", - Oleksandr Turchynov said.

He added that as professional training of special ops, so providing them with modern weapons, equipment, means of communication, reconnaissance and surveillance is of a grave importance. "At all proving grounds and training centers of National Guard and Ministry of Internal Affairs the selection and training of professionals is being started, including with the participation of foreign instructors" - Oleksandr Turchynov said, adding that the majority of officers and soldiers within these units have combat experience and were decorated with fighting awards.

 "And the main thing, that we have seen today during military exercises - our guardsmen are ready to professionally fulfill tasks set before them", - Oleksandr Turchynov said, adding that special forces are tasked to rapidly localize a threat anywhere in the country, for what the appropriate logistics and technical potential is being prepared. Moreover, he noted, in the process of reforming of the Ministry of Internal Affairs within the National Police a 6-thousandth Operational Rapid Action Corps will be created - ORAC. This special unit should professionally and efficiently perform functions which previously were laid on such units as "Berkut", "Falcon", "Griffin" and so on.

"The task for ORAC is to provide effective struggle against armed gangs and criminal groupings and to protect our citizens, regardless of which part of Ukraine, city, village or town they reside", - NSDC Secretary said. In the nearest future, NSDC Secretary said, Ministry of Internal Affairs starts Ukraine-wide contest and intake of troopers for this unit, who should become a face and a powerful force of new police. The preference will be given to physically trained mentally stable patriotic minded citizens, especially those who gained combat experience, defending the territorial integrity of our country.
