Oleksandr Turchynov: Mariupol is an example of persistence and resilience and it inspires the liberation of all our land from invaders

Secretary of National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov along with Minister of Internal Affairs Arsen Avakov and Donetsk region executives opened a monument to soldiers fallen during the liberation of Mariupol.

Participants honored with a minute of silence the militia officers, soldiers of National Guard and Armed Forces of Ukraine, who were killed in the area of ATO.

At the solemn meeting devoted to Mariupol Liberation Day, Oleksandr Turchynov stressed that the main objective, set before the military during liberation of the city, "was not to allow any civilian casualties in the course of the operation".

"With the risk to their lives, our heroes duly fulfilled this task. Today Mariupol is an example of persistence and resilience and it inspires the liberation of all our land from invaders", - he said.

NSDC Secretary stressed that it's very symbolic that today the central square of the city, which bore the name of "Bolshevik tyrant, is renamed to Liberty Square". "And it is on this Liberty Square, we will celebrate the liberation of all our land", - summed up Oleksandr Turchynov.

Right after the solemn meeting and talking with the residents of the city, NSDC Secretary has gone to the front line of the sector, where the military confrontation most actively occurs.
