Oleksandr Lytvynenko: We must demonstrate to the world community that military force does not work
On Monday, 3 June, Secretary of the National Security and Defence Council of Ukraine Oleksandr Lytvynenko met with foreign journalists and media representatives from the USA, Germany, the Netherlands, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria and Nicaragua.
The purpose of the meeting was to convey to the widest possible global audience objective information about the current state of affairs in Ukraine, the true motives behind the war russia had unleashed, and to debunk russia's false historical narratives used to justify its aggression against a sovereign country.
During the dialogue, Oleksandr Lytvynenko underlined the importance of countering russian propaganda which is actively spreading both in the collective West and in the Global South. In particular, he highlighted the need to debunk the myths about the so-called ‘fraternal peoples’ and other historical fakes produced by russian propaganda. He focused on russia's attempts to rewrite the history of Ukraine.
The Secretary of the National Security and Defence Council of Ukraine paid special attention to the goals and objectives set by the President of Ukraine in initiating the Global Peace Summit to be held on 15-16 June 2024 in Switzerland. As stated by the NSDC Secretary, the Peace Summit should be one of the steps towards ending the war and forcing russia to come back to the international legal framework.
Oleksandr Lytvynenko emphasised that Ukraine seeks a just peace for decades, not a russian distorted version of it:"We must demonstrate to the international community that military force does not work."
