Safety and assessment of chemical facilities: Ukrainian delegation learns to assess risks and threats at chemical facilities
On 23-25 April, a joint in-person training workshop on "Security and Assessment of Chemical Facilities" was held in Bucharest, Romania, with the support of the Office of Threat Reduction of the Bureau of International Security and Nonproliferation, the U.S. Department of State, the U.S. Foundation for Civilian Research and Development (CRDF Global), with the assistance of the Critical Infrastructure Security Service of the National Security and Defence Council of Ukraine and with the participation of experts from the United States under the project "Protecting Ukraine's Critical Chemical Infrastructure from Ongoing Russian Aggression".
The main goal of the training workshop was to conduct practical exercises on assessing risks, vulnerabilities, and threats at chemical facilities, to provide the Ukrainian delegation with the necessary knowledge and skills to ensure the safety, as well as conduct an independent assessment of chemical facilities in Ukraine, and to assess the vulnerabilities of operating chemical facilities.
The workshop was attended by 23 representatives of state authorities, business entities and higher education institutions of Ukraine. The National Security and Defence Council of Ukraine was represented by Iryna Tymoshenko, Head of the Critical Infrastructure Security Service.
According to Iryna Tymoshenko, the participants discussed with representatives of the Bureau of International Security and Nonproliferation, the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security the matters of further cooperation in critical infrastructure protection in Ukraine.
