Oleksandr Lytvynenko: Ukraine's membership in NATO is the most effective way to stop russia
Ukraine's membership in the North Atlantic Alliance is the best way to stop the armed aggression of the russian federation. This was stated by Secretary of the National Security and Defence Council of Ukraine, Oleksandr Lytvynenko, during a meeting with representatives of the European Council on Foreign Relations (ECFR) on Monday, 15 April.
The parties discussed the current military and political situation in Ukraine, the upcoming NATO summit in Washington, geopolitical issues related to the formation of international policy.
Oleksandr Lytvynenko expressed hope that Ukraine would receive an invitation to become a member of the North Atlantic Alliance at the NATO summer summit in Washington. In his opinion, this should happen because Ukraine makes a great contribution to the global security architecture.
"NATO's military potential is more powerful than Russia's. However, if we don't stop russia through joint efforts, it will go further. Appeasement of the russian dictator putin will not stop the fighting in Ukraine. He only understands the language of force", said Oleksandr Lytvynenko.
In her turn, Dean of the Paris School of International Relations and former Spanish Foreign Minister Arancha González Laya stressed that Western countries are united in the view that Ukraine is as important to Europe as Europe is to Ukraine.
At the end of the conversation, Oleksandr Lytvynenko thanked the partner countries for their support of Ukraine in the fight against russia, for their contribution to the development of the domestic defence industry and stressed that both the assistance of allies and security guarantees are important for Ukraine.
