The main expenditure item is defence: The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has adopted the state budget for 2024

The main expenditure item is defence. Ukraine’s security and defence sector will receive 22.1%, or UAH 1.69 trillion.

On Thursday, 9 November, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted the Law “On the State Budget of Ukraine for 2024”. The Law stipulates that defence expenditures will amount to 22.1% of GDP, or UAH 1.69 trillion.

According to the Law, the national security and defence sector will be financed exclusively at the expense of domestic revenues.

It should be noted that the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, when approving the draft law “On the State Budget of Ukraine for 2024”, took into account the decision of the National Security and Defence Council of Ukraine dated 9 October 2023 “On Proposals to the Draft Law of Ukraine “On the State Budget of Ukraine for 2024” on Articles Related to Ensuring National Security and Defence of Ukraine”, enacted by the Decree of President of Ukraine No. 682 dated 9 October 2023.
