Oleksiy Danilov: Russia uses information terrorism against Ukraine, which is part of hybrid aggression

The Russian Federation is waging an information war against Ukraine, and the “fifth column” within our state is facilitating this.

Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Oleksiy Danilov stated this in his comment on the NSDC decision of February 2, 2021 “On the application of personal special economic and other restrictive measures (sanctions)”, enacted by the Decree of President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy of 02.02.2021 № 43/2021.

Mr. Danilov noticed that the NSDC decision was adopted by written vote. He said that 18 out of 19 members of the Council took part in the voting, 17 voted in favor, one abstained, and one - Minister of Defense of Ukraine Andriy Taran - did not vote because he is on a business trip to India.

“As for the legality of the sanctions, we have no doubt that everything has been done within the framework of the current legislation, all the necessary procedures have been followed”, - he said. According to him, the sanctions were adopted taking into account the Resolution of the Verkhovna Rada of October 4, 2018. Proposals substantiated by the relevant documents were also submitted by the Security Service of Ukraine.

“President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is the guarantor of the Constitution, and everything is carried out within the framework of the legislation and the Constitution”, - the NSDC Secretary stressed.

“It is not about freedom of speech. We are talking about information terrorism against our country, and we cannot allow this”, - the NSDC Secretary stated adding that information war is being waged against Ukraine, which is part of Russia’s hybrid aggression.

Mr. Danilov added that the preparation of documents for the NSDC decision by the relevant services and institutions took much time. “If someone thinks it can be done in a day or a week, he is deeply mistaken”.
