Oleksiy Danilov: The cooperation of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine with the security and defense sector actors should be put on a practical track

The cooperation of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine with the security and defense sector actors should be put on a practical track. Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Oleksiy Danilov emphasized this during a meeting with the top-management and academicians of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

The participants of the meeting discussed the issues of further development of basic and applied science in Ukraine and meeting the needs of the state in the sphere of science and high technologies in the context of national security.

Mr. Danilov noticed that Ukraine should take its place “in the top ten” of innovative countries of the world, which have a strong scientific potential and developed economy. “Without this, it is hard to talk about its further successful development”, - he said.

President of the NAS of Ukraine, Academician Anatoliy Zahorodniy expressed the readiness of the highest scientific self-governing organization of Ukraine to engage in solving existing problems in water and energy security, agricultural development, use of new materials, medicines, etc. He also drew attention to the importance of reviving state science and technology programs.

The possibility of involving the NAS of Ukraine in drafting 14 strategies to be developed in accordance with the NSDC decision of September 14, 2020 “On the National Security Strategy of Ukraine”, enacted by Presidential Decree of September 14, 2020, № 392, was also considered.

First Vice President of the NAS of Ukraine, Academician Volodymyr Horbulin informed about the scientific and technical programs identified together with the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, the implementation of which, he said, will further develop and strengthen the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The Secretary of the Council invited the NAS representatives to join the working groups established at the NSDC Staff and suggested preparing analytical reports and submitting proposals on each issue discussed at the meeting.

The participants of the meeting decided to hold such topical meetings once a month.
