Secretary of the NSDC of Ukraine Oleksiy Danilov discussed with WHO Representative in Ukraine Jarno Habicht intensified cooperation in response to COVID-19
Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Oleksiy Danilov held a meeting with WHO Representative in Ukraine Jarno Habicht. The parties discussed the current situation over the worldwide spread of the new coronavirus, as well as stepping up cooperation between WHO and Ukraine in response to COVID-19.
According to Mr. Danilov, since the first days of the COVID-19 outbreak worldwide, a number of threat response measures have been introduced in Ukraine. “Since January 20, we have been closely monitoring the situation in the world in real time”, - the NSDC Secretary said adding that an operational task force has been working at the NSDC Staff to conduct round-the-clock monitoring of the situation. “We also have a clear and complete list of hospitals throughout Ukraine ready to receive patients”, - Mr. Danilov added.
The NSDC Secretary stressed the importance of cooperation with WHO in consulting on effective diagnostic procedures, protection of healthcare workers and exchange of information on the prognosis of the spread of the pandemic.
In his turn, Jarno Habicht offered the NSDC Secretary insights on the WHO’s new approaches to diagnosis and response to cases of disease. The WHO Representative in Ukraine emphasized the importance of preventive measures and effective communication with the population. He also expressed WHO’s readiness to further share recommendations and strengthen interaction with the Ukrainian side, highlighting the key role of the NSDC in cross-sectoral engagement in responding to the COVID-19 situation.
The parties agreed to hold working meeting of experts from WHO and the NSDC Staff once a week to exchange operational information on countering the spread of the virus in Ukraine.
