Secretary of the NSDC of Ukraine Oleksiy Danilov met with Deputy Secretary General for Political Affairs and Political Director of the European External Action Service Jean-Christophe Belliard

Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Oleksiy Danilov held a meeting with Deputy Secretary General for Political Affairs and Political Director of the European External Action Service Jean-Christophe Belliard.

During the meeting, the parties discussed topical issues of cooperation between Ukraine and the European Union and exchanged views on the development of the security environment in the region.

The NSDC Secretary expressed his gratitude for the EU's comprehensive support of Ukraine. "We are grateful to the European Union for its assistance in such a difficult time for us, and we greatly appreciate it", - he said expressing hope that joint efforts would bring peace to Donbas.

Mr. Belliard acknowledged our country's success in the implementation of reforms and urged not to stop at that point. "Ukraine needs to strengthen and diversify its economy. The EU is ready to invest in your country if you continue to actively implement reforms", - he said.

The interlocutors paid special attention to the issue of the war in Donbas and the way to resolve the situation in the occupied territories. According to the NSDC Secretary, "there are limits to the compromise that we are ready to make" within the framework of the Minsk process.

In his turn, Mr. Belliard noticed that President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has already made enough steps to move forward in a peaceful settlement, and now Russia must demonstrate a constructive response.

According to Mr. Danilov, "we should focus on creating humanitarian corridors, facilitating the lives of people living in the occupied territories". In this context, the NSDC Secretary stressed the importance of holding the International Investment Forum in Mariupol on October 29, where issues of humanitarian and economic development of the region will be discussed at a high level.

Jean-Christophe Belliard assured of the continued support of Ukraine for its further successful development, in particular in the Azov region, emphasized the EU's clear stance on maintaining sanctions against Russia until the Minsk agreements are fully implemented, and expressed the readiness to further deepen cooperation between the EU and Ukraine.
